# Job statuses

> What each Job status means and which Jobs tab shows it.

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Briefing | The agency has captured the role but hasn't started recruiting. Every new Job starts here. |
| Open | The agency is recruiting for the role. |
| On hold | Work has paused. The Job stays available. |
| Filled | Finished: the hiring need was met. |
| Lost | Finished without filling it. |

* A Briefing Job opens on its own when its first candidate moves past Long list, or when its ideal candidate is confirmed, whichever comes first. The Job's Activity says why ("Opened automatically: first candidate reached Short list") and offers Undo. It only happens once per Job and never from On hold, Filled or Lost.
* You can still set the status by hand at any time.
* Set **Filled** or **Lost** to close a Job. Reopen it through the same status control.
* The Job's owner, the Manager of their team or an Admin can change the status, edit the Job or archive it. The owner is the Job's first consultant, or whoever made it while nobody is on it. Activity records every change.
* Everyone else sees the Job read only. They can still add candidates, notes, tasks and logs. Ask Flo to change it, and the change goes to the owner to approve.

Tabs you've reordered or edited keep your changes; a new Closed tab is added at the end.
